Using a Phillips screwdriver, reach in through the air intake grille in the bumper, at an angle, and remove one screw per side that holds in the turn signal lens and housings. Answer Mine ended up being fused … so tight that a mechanic had to break them off.
The nuts are located one each side, on the back side of the radiator support. They are a little long-winded, but you will see them clearly and hate them when you are through. Once the brake caliper is installed,install the wheeland tighten lug nuts to firm. After much trial and error I finally found out that it is only 4 bolts and 2 nuts to remove the bumper. I have had to heat these andeven drill out and use a chisel to break free. Take care to salvage the thin template-looking metal strips the nolts go through.
The plastic rivets that attach the cover to the bumper structure can now be easily accessed without ruining the headlights. First, there are 2 screws on the bumper on the inside of the wheel well, 2 on each side, 4 total. Follow the bumper down to the bottom and then move forward from the wheel about 6 inches. Don't forget to unscrew the bulb from the back of the headlights and remove the corner lamps one screw on each side visible from overhead by sliding them forward. You will see a nut on a stud.
Twist to unscrew the bulb sockets. Drum may have 1 or 2 screws in the front of it but doubtful. Maybe you are removeing them to paint and reinstall. The bumper should now be free to remove. You don't need to fully remove the bumper to get the headlight out. It took two of us an hour to get mine off, even after seeing the original and very incomplete answer to this question. They will show youhow to remove and install the bumper.
I just yesterday replaced a rear caliper,and both sidesrotors,pads,grease slide pins and bleed the brake system in twohours. Use a large screwdriver to twist the piston in instead of compressing it when installing new pads on the rear. It works better to have a helper in this replacing. This also makes reassembly much easier. Beat on the corner of the drum until it pops loose.
Mine is the 7th post down. I recommend lubricating these withsome liquid wrench and let sit briefly. If you're just changing a headlight, I would recommend removing the 4 bolts and 2 nuts the original poster mentioned and then the additional hardware on just 1 side. Made of durable steel to ensure sturdy support system. Use this tool to remove the plastic snap rivets from the bottom and top of the bumper cover and inside wheel well coverings as needed. Again, 1 on each side, 2 total.
These should be a 12mm socket. Removing all hardware on only one side will allow you to pull it down on just one side and remove the headlight. It's more of an ordeal than you'd think, especially the … two pop in fasteners underneath the bumper. The edge allignment works best to adjust it as you go since it is flexible. If true, I would have a qualified shop handle the work. Lastly, there are 2 nylon screws that connect the lower bumper cowl to the forward engine cowl. Hence the need to purchase new mounting rails before starting work.
Then remov … e the four bolts on each bumper. You may need to re-use it on your replacement bumper. Gently pry them forward to unfasten the pegs from their holes in the fenders. Use a torx head driver to remove the fasteners just inside the left and right side of the tailgate. They are held in place by two plastic horizontal V clips so a popping noise is normal.
You will see what I mean when you start putting it back together. I know my version seems complicatedbut,to do this correctly take's time a a good general mechanicalknow how. A bolt on each side of the fender, 2 fasteners underneath the bumper, 3 screws and a bolt behind each wheel, slide off mounts one each side near the back, and a few buttons along the top of the bumper on the sides and by the trunk. Jack car up and lower to the pointwhere the wheel touches ground but not completely lowered so thewheel will not roll. The rear rotors remove normally when the caliper is removed.
