Literally, if having a second manual can save me an hour, or prevent breaking a part, it is worth it. I think I've got the switch already ruled out but I plan to do more testing this evening. Re: Found a good site for Force Outboard Ignition Troubleshooting Welcome to Forum, Unless you are already familiar with your particular Force engine the Seloc manuals tend to be a bit too vague in giving specific descriptions and instructions that can make working on your engine a much less frustrating ordeal. Just ask questions and make sure of what you are getting.

Your L-drive should be winterized like any other 2 cycle outboard. The Clymer ProSeries has long been the trusted source for professionals and experienced mechanics for many product manufacturers where there is no longer technical information in print. They've got all the ignition parts I may need at much lower prices than I've seen elsewhere. If your having ignition trouble from a Force, I strongly suggest you check it out. The manual provides hundreds of photos and diagrams. I've been using the forums to do some initial troubleshooting.
Outboard Service and Repair Manual This Clymer outboard shop manual covers engines for the years 1969-1989. Good luck and smooth water! In addition, Clymer ProSeries Marine Manuals feature condensed service data and specifications covering multiple manufacturers and models. The end result is that they tell you little about the motor that your are actually trying to fix or service. It had answers to a lot of questions I had after checking out the online Seloc manual. They have served a purpose for me for what I was doing at the time. I bought the Seloc manual and online access from iboats to get a jump on it.
There is also a troubleshooting guide on the site that is more detailed than the seloc manual one and it looks like seloc may have even used some of the other guides steps. The outboard service and repair manual applies to the following years: 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989. Treat fuel, fog carbs and cylinders, change gear oil. The factory manual is written for shop technicians, so it skips over the info that a shop tech should already know. My engine is a 1990 4 cylinders 120hp L-drive. A second manual is a good idea. Considering Seloc attempts to cover Force engines from 5 hp to 150 hp they do a descent job at it.

I have some Clymers and Selocs at home. Clymer is a much better manual for your Force. In looking for parts I found the website below. They are more expensive but as you will read 100 times in this forum they are worth it.
The Clymer and Seloc manuals have more in the way of general discussions and explanations on maintenance and repair tools, techniques, troubleshooting, etc. This service manual is written for the experienced mechanic. The extra costs for these extra manuals is minor compared to what you save paying a mechanic to do the work. The Clymer has a section on the L-drive, which shows the areas that are different from the outboard models. The Clymer ProSeries manual line provides hundreds of exploded views and illustrations to guide you through repairs. So they arent total junk.
