It doesn't quite sit flush with the roof when closed. If you hold open or close to long it starts grinding. If we get a chance to perform the procedure, we will be sure to document it. Howzit bro I'm having the same problem with my sunroof!!!! It sounded like something was stripped, because the hex head in the middle of the motor was spinning, but no movement from the sunroof. There is a large tab in the front of the assembly that fits into a slot in the metal frame of the car--this will hold up the front part of the roof as you lower it. When first bought the sunroof did move, a little 5-6inches, but not fully opening.
Because I don't have 4,000. Most times it is best to remove from vehicle, then inspect and replace what is broken. The plastic can crack and fall off. I was wondering if there is a way for me to force the sunroof to close. Is the anything you can do? I haven't tried it myself. It's held on by 3 T-25 Torx screws: Sunroof Motor To adjust the roof motor, loosen the T-25 screws until its worm gear clears the sunroof drive gear, and then turn the motor a little use the special bent allen wrench that's in the toolkit in the trunk of the car; engage it into its hole in the drive gear. . These will release the rear of the sunroof from the frame, allowing you to push up on the rear from the inside and raise the rear of the roof to give you more access to the front screws.
It turns out that my motor had somehow jumped its worm drive so that its fore-aft setting was off. Remove the sunroof glass and inspect the tracks and guides. See the remaining photos in this project for more details. Only then i'll be able to see if the clips are broken for if they just came off the rails. Would I have to remove the whole thing to figure out the problem because I've been to 15 diff shops in my area and no one deals with them. This project will go over the details associated with complete sunroof removal and renewal of these pieces. The inner roof slides back ok but the outer lid won't raise. When I removed this particular assembly from the car, this piece fell out not a good sign. This is quite common and sounds like what you are describing. There is another set of circumstances which can occur that will render the sunroof inoperable. The sunroof still tilts as well.
Important: Do not open the sunroof with the headliner piece pushed in the back; you could damage the mechanism. Sunroof must be in closed position.
