Less cable tension and travel means low control pressure, slippage, and failure. The only thing I might have done to upset the shifting Is a pulled the intake and heads a few years ago to cure a blown head gasket. I've had really good luck with it so far. Giving the Transmission a better mechanical advantage and in turn, better take-off acceleration, slightly lower fuel consumption, and designed for better gearset strength. I've scoured the local junkyards, and haven't come up with anything.
When i got the Trans Valve to work the car was Incredible. I hope it continues so I can learn from it. If this is the case, you have to remove the transmission and inspect for damage. In park or neutral, the ground is complete and the engine starts. This is what is listed on Wikipedia. All that 1-D-1 box banging wreaks havoc on the bands and clutches, causing bigger messes than are seen daily on the Jerry Springer show, and makes them unreliable and ill suited to performance applications at least by reputation. They don't require a core either so you can possibly make a few bucks on that.
Furthermore be aware Transmission repair is very costly dangerous and painful. I would recommend it to anybody who needs a powerful transmisison to hold up a big block motor. If there are 3 , it's for a 4. With the engine at idle against the throttle stop, insert a thickness gauge or drill bit. These can take longer to complete and be more difficult to tune. With the throttle at idle stop and the throttle valve lever inside the transmission just touching the throttle valve, you should see 5 psi.
Overfilling the sump causes fluid foaming and malfunction. The oil was discolored because of the slipping and heat. The gear ratio found in this transmission is great for trail and highway use. Best advice is to install a quality mild shift kit I like TransGo , big trans cooler, and quality clutches, etc. I was surprised it was as clean as it was. .
The 4R70W has options from about 1600 to 2500, there again these depend on what is in front of it. Other people like Mustang Steve, Vintage Venom and Shaun Burgess of Street or Track. The cure for this was the introduction of the lockup torque converter. With the cable completely slack, you should have 5-psi throttle valve pressure. The adapter kit includes an adapter housing, new output shaft, spud shaft, retainer, bearing, snap ring, gasket, seal, o-ring, fastening hardware and adapter instructions. If you can fit your hand between the converter and the bellhousing, it is not properly seated.
I'm a bit taken back by my mention of the failed bearing in the gear train. I worked with the clutch supplier on this project myself, so I am speaking from experience. You have a choice of steel or aluminum. There were a few years that they seemed better in that respect. Engines from 1982-up are 50-ounce offset balanced with a larger weight welded to the flexplate.
Earlier 289- and 302-ci small-blocks prior to 1982 are 28-ounce. But, even if you do this, you are then locked to those settings unless you open up the transmission to change components in the valve body again. So if the work doesnt kill you, eventually Cancer will. The change is the planetary gear cluster. You need a pressure gauge 0 to 100 psi screwed into the throttle valve pressure port on the passenger side of the transmission case. It was pretty much the only 'game in town,' and for a time, it was the hot ticket for many to get an overdrive automatic transmission. In any gear, there is an open ground in the start circuit, which prohibits starting.
I have one behind a 302. The good news is this is the only Ford overdrive automatic that will bolt directly to big-block 385-series engines; the torque converter fits the original flexplate, and the output shaft is the same diameter and spline count as the C6, so the driveshaft yoke fits. I read thru Section's post re. It should be above 30 psi. These improvements allowed the 4R75W to handle more power while being more efficient and economical. They're readily available on the used market and are great for retrofitting into earlier vehicles. This Tech Tip is From the Full Book,.
Make sure the parking brake is set and the selector is in park. I have it in a 1986 Mercury Grand Marquis. Note the type of engine you have also determines the flexplate type. What needs to be done if using a newer 4r70w in my '96? Newer transmissions that are referred to as 4R70E or 4R75E have modifications that compliment Fords switching to throttle by wire. Total fluid capacity is approximately 14 quarts. This puts my tranny using the Lokar directions at about 45 to 48 psi with their spacer. Most of the threads seem to deal with the 6-cyl transmissions, but I know one of you guys has the info.
